Balloon sinuplasty is a minimally invasive procedure to open blocked sinus passages in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). It gently dilates the sinus openings by inflating a small balloon in the blocked sinus passage. This restores ventilation and drainage without removing tissue or bone.
Patients with persistent CRS symptoms like facial pain/pressure, congestion, postnasal drip, and recurrent infections may benefit.
We typically performed balloon sinuplasty in our office using intravenous sedation administered by an anesthesiologist.
With a thin, flexible balloon catheter inserted via the nostrils, we dilate the blocked openings of the maxillary, frontal, or sphenoid sinuses.
Gentle inflation of the balloon opens the sinus drainage pathway without damaging surrounding tissues or removing bone.
